PA doctor removes wrong testicle, victim wins $870,000

Surgical Mistake

You cannot make up this news story in any way… luckily, the jury did find in favor of the victim who had his healthy testicle removed due to medical malpractice. This is the first verdict of medical malpractice west of Harrisburg in 25-years for the state of Pennsylvania.

A Mount Union man was scheduled to have his damaged, chronically-painful, right testicle but instead, ended up having his healthy left one removed. After years of having excruitating pain in his right one, medical images showed it was about half the size of his healthy one, so he decided to have it surgically removed.

The jury found that the doctor, Dr. Valley Spencer Long, was “recklessly indifferent” in the treatment of the patient. The jury awarded the man $620,000 in compensatory along with $250,000 in punitive damages.
