Road debris on I-79 damaged several vehicles

Four-vehicle crash in Cranberry Township

Emergency crews just inside the Butler County line had their hands-full when the 911 center received numerous phone calls that items were on the road, and it was wrecking vehicles. Cranberry TownshipFire Department and numerous police agencies raced to the interstate to see exactly what was happening.

It was apparent that a truck carrying pallets did not tie down their load, and a pallet flew out on to I-79 – causing vehicles a nightmare. 5 vehicles ran-over the pallet, and a semi-truck was one of the vehicles caught in the mess.

Vehicles were removed, but severe backups on I-79 caused traffic issues through Cranberry Township. Around the same time, a multi-car crash occurred on Freedom Road at Powell Road.

PennDOT and Cranberry Township will be reviewing cameras to see if they can identify who was transporting the load of pallets.
