Sources say Loki’s trainer, Bill Watts, was playing with Loki during the morning hours when Loki suddenly collapsed to the floor.

Loki was rushed to a nearby vet hospital, where it was determined he had aspiration pneumonia. Loki was given antibiotics and was sedated originally.

It was determined Loki was going to be in the hospital for several days, but within the first hour, his condition deteriorated rapidly.

Loki was cremated, to which his trainer will be allowed to keep his ashes once they return. The small police family held a private ceremony.

Pittsburgh Police will be obtaining another bloodhound in the future. Bloodhounds are used in the police departments nationwide to help search for missing persons.
